About me

I was born in Germany and grew up in a bilingual environment in both Germany and South Africa. This experience of being educated in both English and German and being exposed to different cultures from a young age sparked my interest in languages and the importance of clear cross-cultural communication. This applies in particular when doing business across borders.

In 2001, I received my Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in Psychology and Logic (a branch of philosophy) from the University of South Africa.

In 2009, I graduated in Translation Studies with an Honours Bachelor of Arts also from the University of South Africa.

I passed the examination of SATI (South African Translators Institute) and was admitted as a sworn translator by the Western Cape High Court of Southern Africa in 2009. This allows me to provide sworn (certified) translations from German into English of certificates, qualifications, deeds and other legal documents required by public authorities.

Before starting work as a translator, I worked for corporates such as major banks, a stockbroker and in the laboratory of a mining company (which analysed the chemical composition of mining samples) as well as the University of Cape Town (Philosophy department and Research Support Services, with the latter mainly involving analysing legal contracts) and the International Federation of the Red Cross in various finance and administrative support roles. The knowledge gained from this practical experience has been invaluable in my work as a translator to provide you with the right legal and financial terminology in the right context.
